Description:

This mural recognizes and perpetuates the Act of Rememberance for all of our Veterans. It is a transitional collage of images that recognizes the different theatres of war. The choice of sepia colour tones was to give the feel of time. The three central images represent each branch of the Armed Forces and these three individuals are former residents of Morden.

Stephanie Caribou, Bobby Coutu, Gabriel Kematch, Samantha Hiebert, Destiny Dawn Sutherland, five Aboriginal/Metis youth-at-risk, were chosen for the opportunity to learn from an Elder the customary use of ceremonial flags. They were taught for five weeks by artistic professionals to learn skills in community development as well as artistic and practical skills in digital media. They worked with Aboriginal artists Scott Stephens (photographer ), Sébastien Aubin (designer) and KC Adams (visual artist). The five artists set out to engage in the local Aboriginal community by photographing participants at The Manito Ahbee International Competition Pow Wow competition in November of 2008.After digitally altering their photographs to create a total of 90 flags, the images were compiled to create 3 public artworks, three billboards fitting 30 flags each.

The Transpositions exhibition was created over a 3-year period. Works are divided into 3 categories: portraiture, landscape and flora (nature); and advertising. This arwork was created for the advertising platform posters of the SkyTrain stations. The work of 20 Canadian artists extends 24 km along the SkyTrain route from Vancouver to Surrey. Four to seven works are installed randomly amongst the advertising at the following seven stations: Waterfront, Burrard, Grandville, Broadway, Metrotown, New Westminster and Scott Road.

Description:

Nous links the Dawson College cafeteria, where the tragic event of September 13, 2006 took place, and the new auditorium of the College. The project transcends the human tragedy by using the works of Michel Tremblay and Natasha Greenblath, two Montreal playwrights. The background of the photograph features the names of students and employees who were affected by the tragedy. On the Southern wall of the cafeteria, an excerpt from the play We lived in a Palace by young Montreal playwright Natasha Greenblath is printed in a half-circle. Made to look like a scar on the wall, the white embossed text on white background forms a bond with the experience of the event.

Illegal act of insider trading, commentary on the public sphere (by means of private advertising in public space) within the city of Vancouver, urbanization, deconstruction of opposing ideologies in the public realm, multiplicity of public discourse, street audience issues.

History

History:

Negotiating with the City of Vancouver, a double-sided bus shelter advertising display case was secured at the Southwest corner of Burrard and Robson Streets, between February 29 and June 13, 1988. Participating artists produced new work specific to the conditions of the project and exhibited for five consecutive three-week periods.

Trading by Ross Muirhead and Squid the most intelligent of the invertebrates by Don Gill are set simultaneously on the front and back of the bus shelter's advertising case.

Exhibition We Are the World / White Noise, YYZ Gallery, Toronto, ON, 1988 (Wednesday, April 27-Saturday, May 21). This version of the work was in three languages: Korean, English and Afghan Farsi

Exhibition Adverse Practices, Vancouver, BC, 1988.
Following negotiations with the city of Vancouver, the exhition was booked on the front and back of the advertising box in the bus shelter located at the Southwest corner of the intersection of Burrard and Robson Streets, from February 29 to June 13, 1988. The participating artists created specific new works for the project. Five three-week exhibitions followed.

We Are the World by Mark Lewis and Perhaps She Was So Wicked... by Jil P. Weaving simultaneously occupy the front and back of the advertising box in the bus shelter.

Ron Terada (Vancouver) reveals a sensitive area of identity with the controversial See Other Side Of Sign, which appears as nonsense in a bare landscape. Isolated in its absurdity, See Other Side Of Sign manages yet to provoke controversy.

History

History:

Quartier Éphémère places artists’ interventions in the city, at the heart of its bustling activities. Plan Large is an event that aims to improve the urban environment and the dynamic of a neighbourhood through the presence of art. Three photographers empower three illuminated abandoned billboards, diverted from their original advertising function by the use of giant photographs. From the Bonaventure highway and the railway tracks, millions of commuters can admire the illuminated pieces every day as they enter and leave the city. The artists were selected based on the context and the immediate environment for the location of the panels. This artwork has already been exhibited elsewhere (but not in a public place): Ron Terada, See Other Side of Sign, December 7-10, 2006, Art Basel Miami Beach. Exhibition of artworks by artists of the Catriona Jeffries Gallery.
