In 2003, Ribbons and Rings was a letter-writing campaign for love. Two hundred letters were distributed around Winnipeg, MB, with a P.O. box c/o "Love", urging people to feel connected and respond to the project by returning the message by mail.

A large meeting table constructed of snow and ice bears a simplified map of Regina. Various city buildings and infrastructure are represented in moveable ice blocks, which participants are invited to place on the map, thus creating their ideal vision of their city.

History:

The Transpositions exhibition was created over a 3-year period. Works are divided into 3 categories: portraiture, landscape and flora (nature); and advertising. This arwork was created for the advertising platform posters of the SkyTrain stations. The work of 20 Canadian artists extends 24 km along the SkyTrain route from Vancouver to Surrey. Four to seven works are installed randomly amongst the advertising at the following seven stations: Waterfront, Burrard, Grandville, Broadway, Metrotown, New Westminster and Scott Road.

SIMULTANEOUSLY WASHERS AND DRYERS WERE A PRACTICAL CHOICE I WAS ABLE TO GET A LOT OF MATERIAL FOR NOTHING THAT’S IMPORTANT I’M PAYING THOSE HIGH GAS PRICES TOO THE DIMENSIONS OF THE APPLIANCES WERE JUST RIGHT BELIEVE IT OR NOT ONCE THEY’VE BEEN STRIPPED THEY CAN BE MOVED AROUND FAIRLY EASILY BY ONE PERSON WHICH MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO WORK ON THIS SCALE WITHOUT THE NEED FOR HEAVY EQUIPMENT I LIKE THE FACT THAT I’M RECYCLING THIS METAL BUT THAT WASN’T A PRIMARY CONCERN FOR WHAT I’M DOING WITH THEM IT WAS NECESSARY TO FIND FORTY MACHINES WITH IDENTICAL PROPORTIONS I WAS SURPRISED THAT IT TOOK ME LESS THAN TWO WEEKS TO GET ALL OF THIS NICE THIN METAL AND SUCH BEAUTIFUL COLORS TOO

History

History:

Negotiating with the City of Vancouver, a double-sided bus shelter advertising display case was secured at the Southwest corner of Burrard and Robson Streets between February 29 and June 13, 1988. Participating artists produced new work specific to the conditions of the project and exhibited for five consecutive three-week periods.

Squid the most intelligent of invertebrates by Don Gill and Trading by Ross Muirhead are simultaneously exposed on the front and back of the bus shelter's advertising case.

Benner’s garden was one of those that Harbourfront Centre chose to keep in place for more than a single year. This allowed the addition, two years after the initial installation, of a 4’ x 4’ b/w photo mural, originally used in American Cloisonné (1987-1988).

This exhibition also featured two other parts. New Normal, an acrylic painting, was hung in the cafeteria. Normal Graduation 23 consisted of twelve oval plastic clocks that were suspended from metal chains on the chandelier in the entrance. The clocks contain the following elements: portraits from 1913-1973 repertories, newspaper cuttings of local Stratford, wallpaper evoking the era at which the portraits were taken, a copy of the New Normal painting and the logo of the Normal School.

History:

In the summer of 1969, just months after it was installed at McGill Metro Station, the work was targeted by vandals. The tapestry was removed from the station to be cleaned but, because there was a dispute between the donor of the work and the Montreal Metro organization, it was never returned. The City of Montreal finally surrendered it to McGill University in 1972.

Before being relocated, it was installed at Complexe Desjardins (150 St. Catherine Street West). The statue was also moved to the banks of the City of Longueuil.

Description:

Memorial to Alphonse Desjardins (1854-1920), founder of the first credit union in North America. The abstract work is composed of different surfaces, some open, others closed, showing a silhouette of Alphonse Desjardins's face. Excerpts from some of his speeches are displayed in relief on the monument. According to the artist, "the upward spiral movement of the piece evokes dynamism, evolution and the far-reaching scope of the work of Commandeur Desjardins."

The monument was commissioned in 1974 by the Union régionale de Montréal des Caisses populaires Desjardins to celebrate their 75th anniversary. The delays in construction schedules at Complexe Desjardins prevented the celebration of this event. According to Lise Lamarche, the artist was forced to insert a medallion of Alphonse Desjardins and excerpts from his speeches. The sculpture was unveiled on November 22, 1975. The work was relocated in 1995 because of renovation work at Complexe Desjardins. On June 23, 2005, the sculture was inaugurated at Catchpaw Park.

Description:

Conceived in 1979, Parc de la langue française remains a work in progress, although various versions have been presented in Quebec, Germany and France. The project aims to create a permanent public park where the words of the French language and their definitions would be printed on small plates and planted in the ground, creating a harmonious landscape with the surrounding nature. The Park would be divided into Word Districts, from A to Z. The park would be a physical dictionary inviting passersby to read the words, the act of reading itself a journey into language.
