Description:

Bridge, Abridged consists of several components which focus attention on the cutting-edge engineering and materials used in the pedestrian overpass structure. Adam Kuby integrates words and manipulates shapes to make users aware of the forces at work around them. The bridge engineering is unique because it uses a cantilevered system anchored by tension rods with a "floating" span supported between the two piers. This means that the opposing forces of tension and compression work together to support the bridge walkway. A benefit of this engineering design is that a centre support for the pedestrian bridge is not needed.

Note(s):

Adam Kuby was commissioned in June 2006 through an invitational call using the Public Art Program's Artist Roster.
The budget for Bridge, Abridged was $252,000.
The public art project was a collaborative initiative of the Public Art Program and City of Calgary Transportation Infrastructure, the business unit sponsor.
The capital project which provided the funding was the Glenmore Trail Causeway upgrades from 14th Street to Crowchild Trail.

Description:

Monument commemorating the district of Pointe-Saint-Charles and its inhabitants. It is shaped like a boat, evoking maritime transfers. Three wooden beams support a triangular element. Its three layers have a symbolic value for the artist: the lower part, in green concrete, recalls the "Irish origins of the neighborhood"; the central element, in red bricks, connects "working class dwellings" to the area; and the three aluminium chimneys that top the upper part of the piece are a reflection of the "industrial past" of Pointe-Saint-Charles. A poem is written on a panel.

Description:

This bas-relief reproduced the poem Tango de Montreal by Gérald Godin. The work is integrated into the north side of a house. The bricks are colored terracotta pink. The letters are carved into the bricks. A row of lights is at the bottom of the work. Each letter is covered with a black mortar which facilitates remote play.

The work was done during the creation of the Place Gérald-Godin, as part of the redevelopment of the area surrounding the shrine of the metro station Mont-Royal.

Note(s):

The poem's title, the artist's name and the text reference are inscribed on the left side of the artwork. Gérald Godin was born in 1938 and died in 1994. He was a poet and Mercier county's MP between 1981 and 1985. A commitee approved the poem selection, which caused some controversy.
