Description:

This exhibition also featured two other parts. New Normal, an acrylic painting, was hung in the cafeteria. Normal Graduation 23 consisted of twelve oval plastic clocks that were suspended from metal chains on the chandelier in the entrance. The clocks contain the following elements: portraits from 1913-1973 repertories, newspaper cuttings of local Stratford, wallpaper evoking the era at which the portraits were taken, a copy of the New Normal painting and the logo of the Normal School.

Similar both to public signage and graffiti, Templates for Walking Theatre link language to municipal authority and to our personal capacities as citizens for creating new meaning. These graphic and linguistic borders mark differentiation upon the city landscape, and engage our partially free acts of negotiating through it. The Templates arise from an activist impulse: they elicit not only our contemplative faculties, but also new possibilities for our active, bodily behaviour in the streets.

One day, in October 2003 in Toronto, at the request of Laurel Woodcock, the Adler Aviation Company flew a plane pulling a banner on which the sentence "WISH YOU WERE HERE" was written.

On January 15, 2004, in Guelph, the event was repeated for thirty minutes at the opening of the artist's exhibition at the Macdonald Stewart Art Center.

The three videos presented were Location shoot, A favorite film from each letter of the alphabet / a favorite film from each year since my birth and a document about the flight with the banner (3:30 min).

"The phrase is familiar as that abused by generations of souvenir postcards. Once meant as a wholehearted invocation to the friend or family member who could not travel along to an exotic location, it has become hollow and empty, often used with sardonic intent."

When the eye can no longer focus sharply on near objects, an optical lens is required to assist in reading and near work. Three basic lens designs can provide this assistance. Bifocal lenses are convenient, as they offer the wearer two fields of correction, distance, and near. Trifocals go a step further, with an additional zone for intermediate, arms length vision. The third and most recent optical lens design is the progressive addition lens. Progressive addition lenses are a technically advanced design which allows continuous vision from infinity to near. Because of the absence of lines, the visual path is smooth and uninterrupted. In addition to improved visual comfort, esthetic appearance is enhanced. By trying the various styles, individuals can determine which types of design can best suit their needs.

The artist disseminated photographs throughout the park. On these pictures, words could be read more or less clearly. She also hid cards and other clues, such as a soundtrack of children reciting words found in the city (schedules and store names, street names, advertisements).

Description:

Sculptural grouping consisting of a suspended element as well as other elements installed on two adjacent walls. The suspended element represents an open book, held by a metal rod at one end of its spine. Its pages are made of translucent plexiglas, tinged with pink. The elements located on the walls consist of rectangular forms held slightly away from the wall by plexiglas rods and installed in such a way as to make them overlap. A crumpled sheet of iridescent, pinkish plastic is glued to their surface.
