Adam Kuby integrates words and manipulates shapes to make users aware of the forces at work around them. The bridge engineering is unique because it uses a cantilevered system anchored by tension rods with a "floating" span supported between the two piers. This means that the opposing forces of tension and compression work together to support the bridge walkway. A benefit of this engineering design is that a centre support for the pedestrian bridge is not needed.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-mentionslegalesillust"> <div class="field-label">Mention(s) légale(s) des illustrations:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd label-above"> Copyright détenu par des photographes et/ou des musées dont la permission/reproduction n’a pas été obtenue </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-crdit-photographique"> <div class="field-label">Photo credits:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd label-above"> © City of Calgary; Adam Kuby </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-texte"> <div class="field-label">Text of the artwork:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd label-above"> <p>Compressed<br /> Anchoring<br /> Tension<br /> Rods<br /> Transmit<br /> Allow<br /> Unmask<br /> Unveil<br /> Reveal Shield<br /> Prohibit<br /> Mask<br /> Obscure<br /> Conceal<br /> Cantilevered<br /> Floating <br /> Expansion joint<br /> CONNECTING<br /> UNITING<br /> VAULTING<br /> ARCHING<br /> SPANNING<br /> LINKING<br /> BRIDGING<br /> JOINING</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-thet field-inline"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd label-inline"> <div class="field-label field-label-inline-first"> Text theme:&nbsp;</div> The format of the text is altered so as to focus on the shape of the structure of the viaduct.
