Description:

L’artiste installe dix boîtes métalliques dans la ville de Montréal. Sur chacun de ces « monuments temporaires » figure un dessin ou une photographie noir et blanc témoignant d’une manifestation antérieure de désordre public. Les emplacements sont choisis en fonction de ces événements. Un texte sous l’image relate un témoignage fictif. Un pulvérisateur automatique répand une odeur à base d’essences naturelles liée à la manifestation publique choisie. Dans quatre librairies de Montréal, l'artiste aménage des sections regroupant des livres sur l'odeur.

De l’entrée du Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, une carte indiquait l’emplacement des dix monuments. Les événements répertoriés étaient: les complots pour renverser la colonne Nelson, au 19e siècle; les vols du fusil du monument Chénier au cours du 20e siècle; la saisie par la police d’une statue de Robert Roussil près du Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal en 1949; l'assaut contre le monument à Saint Jean le Baptiste pendant la parade du 24 juin 1969; l'enlèvement du voile sur le monument à la reine Victoria avant son inauguration officielle, en 1900; le démantèlement de l’œuvre de Jean-Claude Marsan, Pierre Richard et Lucie Ruelland dans le cadre de l’événement Corridart, en 1976; le démantèlement de l’œuvre de Jean-Pierre Séguin dans le cadre de l’événement Corridart, en 1976; la destruction par les autorités policières d’un projet d’art public de Serge Lemoyne, en septembre 1968; le vol de la statue de Lénine au Parc Lafontaine en 1991; la fermeture par la Ville de Montréal de l’atelier d’artistes appelé « La Place des arts », en 1954.
