It was while Simon Dumas was completing his studies in literature at the Université Laval that he cofounded Rhizome, an organization dedicated to research and creation in literary expression outside the book. Since its founding in 2000, he serves as the artistic director. Through his work in this non-profit, he has presented interdisciplinary poetry shows in digital art festivals in Europe, such as Atomes at the festival Les Transnumériques (Brussels, 20008), Para quedar / pour rester humain at the festival Bains numériques (Paris, 2010), and Les duos transatlantiques, coproduced by Transcultures, at the festival City Sonic (Mons, 2013). He cowrote, coproduced, and codirected the interactive video and the scenography for La chute du piano, presented in Québec City, at l'Escale du Livre (Bordeaux), and at Mois Multi.
Beyond the productions he piloted at Rhizome, Simon Dumas undertakes many personal projects: three plays including Fade out, one installation, Chœur(s), and a short film, Projections, which was presented at Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois in 2011. All of his projects are based on literary premises.
Simon has published five books of poetry: Pastel fauves published by Le Loup de gouttière (2001), Petites îles de soif published by Écrits des forges (2003), La chute fut lente, interminable puis terminée published by La Peuplade (2008)—a finalist for the Alain-Grandbois Prize—as well as Mélanie (2013) and Révélations (2016) published by Hexagone. He benefited from a writing residence in Mexico in 2010 and another in Paris in the automn of 2014.
