The painting represents various commercial activities in Canada, from coast to coast: the fisheries of the Pacific, fruit crops, forestry, Native American art, hunting and the fur trade, the oil industry, livestock, agriculture, aviation, chemistry, mining, hydroelectricity, engineering and architecture, textiles and crafts, the maple syrup industry, vegetable crops, and the fisheries of the Atlantic. A maple leaf, the emblem of Canada, appears in the middle. It is overlayed with a scroll featuring the motto of Canada, and the winged helmet of Hermes, the Greek god of commerce and a symbol of invisibility, invulnerability and power.
