Vanier, Luc

Luc Vanier is the School of Dance Director. He holds an MFA from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he also trained as an Alexander Technique (AT) Teacher in 2001. In 2011, he became a certified AT trainer, created the Integral Movement Lab, and co-wrote Dance and the Alexander Technique (University of Illinois Press). He regularly collaborates and presents with Laban Movement Analyst and Alexander Technique Teacher, Elizabeth Johnson (MFA), an Assistant Professor at the University of Florida (Gainesville), and here she acts as co-presenter. Their work together focuses on how they see this digital age critically impacting human health and movement possibilities. They insist the "new" mediated body hearkens back to our primal ancestors' and childhood capacity for the appropriate balance of intention, attention, and activity. Their presentation will be a mix of physical practice with an audience feedback session. They will also present a talk on the nature of the Alexander Technique, developmental philosophies, and our work linking developmental processes with appropriate movement intention.
