Growth
Former Royal Bank of Canada (vacant space)
Six 5-foot tall letters made of foam, felt and wheat grass spell out the word G*R*O*W*T*H. Grown in the bank for two weeks prior to opening, the water supply was then cut off for the duration of the exhibition, which resulted in the slow death of Growth.
Growth
The complex economic and emotional relationship between a bank and its clients; the economy, surplus, surveillance, privacy, social and monetary exchange.
The Bank of Symbiosis. Site-specific exhibition by the Symbiosis Collective. Royal Bank of Canada, Toronto, ON.
Date: 2- 25 octobre 1997
The Symbiosis Collective and four guest artists collaborated on an artistic "occupation" at a former branch of the Royal Bank. Growth is a sculpture featuring six 5-foot tall letters made of foam, felt and wheat grass, which spell out the word G*R*O*W*T*H. Grown in the bank for two weeks prior to opening, the water supply was then cut off for the duration of the exhibition, which resulted in the slow death of Growth. It is part of «The Bank of Symbiosis», a larger exhibition that also includes "Take Heart", an installation.
