Public Artwork
L’énigme de la générale
The work is located in the cafeteria on Level 4.
Sculptural montage consisting of a series of stained-glass panels and components that are inserted between the mullions of the old windows and on the walls of the three protruding vestibules that provide access to the room. The montage as a whole occupies six spaces surrounded by seven blue-painted pilasters.
The lower part of the artwork is mainly composed of translucent blue glass and is also visible from the corridor side. The upper part represents an aerial view of an urban landscape as well as various objects (binoculars, signs, synthetic grass).
The central vestibule presents a half-circle that covers the door panels and adjacent windows, as well as a three-dimensional globe, which decorates the tympanum. The circular line continues into the stained-glass panels, featuring a different texture in the blue glass.
The "veil" is an important element of the artwork, as it refers to the religious community that used to occupy the space. A first veil, above the second vestibule (a structure consisting of oxydized copper pipes, installed on a rod), represents the residual image of a second veil. A third one, made of masked plywood, is attached to the pilasters of the next to last space. Various black and white signs are distributed all over the blue painting. Two final veils are located at the right end of the artwork. One is made of blue polyester resin and is installed in the upper corner, just above the other one, which is represented in the stained glass by an arch closed by a white veil.
